Global Health Activities

Global Surgery Interest Group

The Global Surgery Interest Group was created in 2013 in response to the growing interest of many surgical residents in global health. The group provides a vehicle by which residents and faculty can build knowledge, share experiences, and develop skills in order to work more effectively, when serving diverse populations both locally and globally.  All surgery residents are invited to participate in quarterly events and receive the monthly.

Global Health Seminar

The Department of Global Health facilitates a monthly Global Health Seminar on a wide range of topics, many of which are applicable to global surgery including cancer care in resource-limited settings, development of identity as a global health practitioner, and response to complex humanitarian emergencies.

Grand Rounds

Due to the Department of Surgery’s commitment to global health education , we occasionally have invited speakers at the Department’s Grand Rounds who focus on global health.  Most recently, Dr. Paul Farmer spoke on “Beyond the OR: Surgical Disease and Global Health.”
