I am a thoracic surgeon, clinical investigator, and educator interested in improving healthcare delivery and outcomes for individuals at-risk for and/or diagnosed with lung cancer. One goal is to improve clinical outcomes and the value of diagnostic modalities used for screening, staging, and/or surveillance through comparative-effectiveness research. Another goal is to develop, validate, and implement risk-prediction models as a means of optimizing the value of diagnostic tests and personalizing cancer care. Additionally, I remain heavily involved in quality improvement research. Through my role as Associate Medical Director of the University of Washington Surgical Outcomes Research Center, I also enjoy mentoring post-doctoral fellows interested in quality improvement and/or comparative-effectiveness research, new technology assessment, and health economic evaluations for a variety of thoracic conditions.
