Born and raised in Wisconsin, I moved out to the East Coast for college at Penn. As a Quaker, I competed for four years on the cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track teams, running distance events from 5k to 10k. I found myself back in Wisconsin for medical school where I decided to pursue surgery almost immediately after setting foot in an OR. I was drawn out to the Pacific Northwest to explore the mountains and nearby national parks.
